Support recurring deals

Allow for recurring deals, for monthly services for example. Still want to see them in the pipeline, but don't want to have to enter them ever month.

    sad I’m frustrated
My company sells products and services, which are charged on a monthly basis. When adding deals, is there a way to specify the amount to be monthly, or annual, or just one-time? I can't seem to find how to do this.

Why can't I specify a deal amount that is recurring versus one-time?.

Is my company the only company that sells recurring services?! I most definitely thought I'd see a lot more response on this. It's also important to mention that we may very well sell a package to a client that's a combination of one time and monthly recurring costs. We need the ability to configure these so that our pipeline is more accurate.

Guys, is there any update on when this will be supported? We currently have to utilize custom fields, which don't report as well, in order to psuedo support this. Do you have any plans to build deals that are sold on a monthly recurring revenue model rather than a one-time deal? Thanks

  • Hi Rami,

At this point, we don't have near term plans to support revenue recurrence. This business model is one that get's a little tricky to support without adding many additional attributes at the Deal level and complicating our existing reporting.

We could probably support displaying a recurrence time frame, but PipelineDeals was not designed to be an accounting system. It would be cumbersome to 'clear' the value of a Deal each month to record that income was received.

We could potentially assume you earned income but it would make our Pipeline Reports complicated because of the need to sum the value of a recurring deal then divide that up by the recurrence and spread the value of won business against each month in the recurrence.

We're definitely open to a dialogue and suggestions for what would make your life easier. A recurring business model is something I know we would like to better handle in the future.

    Sincerely,
    -Nic

    Nic,
I was really hoping to get a different answer from you guys. I understand there can be some complexities with recurrence but the problem doesn't seem as daunting as you make it out to be.

If PPD is trying to be a comprehensive sales CRM, you'd assume supporting recurring deals would be AS import as supporting one-time deals. Imagine launching your application without the support for one-time deals? Now what kind of a CRM would that be if we couldn't track a deal's total and report on it? Well, we're asking ourselves that very same question since PPD is becoming more and more useless for us from a tracking and reporting standpoint.

More and more of our clients are on a recurring billing cycle and we just don't know how to track this in PPD. Should we put in the deal's total for 6 month's out, a year out, two years? Say our client is paying $10,000 one-time (half up-front, 1/4 in the middle, and remaining balance at the end) for a development project and then $300 a month afterwards for hosting, maintenance, and support... I'd love some insight as to how I'd record this in PPD to accurately track our pipeline? We are at a loss and, as a result, have severely cut back our usage of PPD and are currently seeking out other solutions to transition to. A friend of mine I recommended PPD to a while back and his large company are currently looking at switching as well, for this very same reason.

With that said, I wish we could stay with PPD because everything else is great except for this big failing. However, if you don't have any near-term plans to support recurring billing, then we don't have any near-term plans to pay for a solution that lacks the ability to support a billing model that has existed for a long time.

    Thanks
    • Hi Rami,

I completely understand where you are coming from and I wish we could completely support your business requirements.

Today, I recommend customers add the overall potential value of the opportunity while its moving through the sales pipeline. Once it closes, you can update the Amount field with additional payments and earned income.

We've designed PipelineDeals to help companies track and manage a sales pipeline of potential new business. To-date we haven't invested in quote building, accounting or post-close financial features.

As we begin looking at projects in 2012 we'll include your feedback into our road-map discussion.

      Sincerely,
      -Nic

    sad I’m anxious
I can, of course, not be thinking "deals" yet, but I need to ask.

Some of my currently business are paid monthly. For example, I have a deal I just won that will be paid with a single amount for some product customizations and, after that, my customer will pay every month to use the product, like a licensing process.

How can I register this deal in PipelineDeals?

    Thanks in advance.
